Riverhead Beaches

Riverhead beaches are found in the Riverhead and South Jamesport areas. The main beaches in Riverhead are the Indian Island County Park beach, Iron Pier Beach and South Jamesport Beach. Indian Island County Park Beach is known for its expansive beautiful white sands. It features comfortable benches, barbecue grills, and convenient picnic areas. It has become especially popular among fishers and campers, though people also enjoy hiking and other sports activities at this park beach. Iron Pier Beach is considered by many to be the most beautiful beach along the Riverhead shoreline. This beach has lifeguards, public restrooms, showers and the unique feature of wheelchair accessibility. Its mild waves make it ideal for swimming, and it is also the fisher's dream as it sees many species of fish throughout the year. Iron Pier Beach is also a great place for watercraft activities, though the crowds that frequent this locale are not too large and overbearing. South Jamesport Beach is a semi-private beach off of Peconic Bay that is ideal for activities ranging from camping to jet-skiing, yet the waves are mild enough for kayaking or swimming. Unlike other Long Island beaches, it is open year round, from sunrise to 10pm.
